Choosing a

responsible

way forward

Our Commitment

Committed to creating sustainable and ethical change.

When embarking on our ESG journey, it was vital to take a holistic view that would encompass all aspects of the business, in order to act as responsibly as possible. We aim to build a sustainable, resilient, and fair business.

This aim has inspired us to rethink how we do things. Our ambition spans from the materials we source to investigating how we can limit our supply chain’s environmental footprint.

Our ESG Roadmap

2. Renewable Energy

We will be reviewing the feasibility of installing roof mounted Solar PV array at our office (which is a listed building). We will have reviewed and made a decision by December 2025.

1. React to Energy Audit

Following our energy audit, we will continue to manage improvements to our Scope 2 emissions on site.

4. bluesign®

We are in the process of becoming bluesign® accredited in 2025. bluesign® is a full systems service for the textile value chain with a focus on sustainable chemistry, empowers companies to meet the highest sustainability and safety standards, with an external verification process.

UPDATE: We are now a bluesign® system partner.

3. Heating Efficiency

By December 2025, we seek to have investigated and decided if the installation of destratification fans is a feasible option for the office.

5. ISO 14001

Implement ISO14001, which is the internationally recognised standard for environmental management systems (EMS) by 2025.

6. Scope 3 Emissions

We plan to have fully assessed Scope 3 emissions across our supply chain by 2027, and in the interim conduct an analysis of team travel by 2025.

Testimonials

We have worked with Genesis for over 9 years and have always found them to offer an excellent service. Product development is made easy with great ideas and innovative solutions shared, followed up by an efficient sampling process. The company is also helping us push forward with sustainable alternatives. Quality is of a consistently high standard, which is our non-negotiable. We look on Genesis as a partner, more than as a supplier.

We’ve been working together with Genesis for 11 years, and over that time they have provided us with outstanding product quality and service. The team are always quick to respond to us and our ideas, coming up with imaginative ways to ensure that the final product meets our expectation. Their product range is exceptional and innovative, and they offer us a wide range of sustainable quality options thus increasing our number of environmentally friendly choices. Genesis work extremely hard to support Barbour from product development through to final delivery, it is a partnership that we truly value.

I can honestly say that after many years in the apparel industry and working with various other label suppliers Genesis are at the top of their game. The Genesis team totally understand your brand requirements and what it is that you’re trying to achieve. Most importantly they listen and they deliver. Other suppliers are quick to promise you the world then fall down on production delivery, quality and communication. Genesis are constantly moving forward and this was evident in working together to establish our sustainable pathway commitment as a brand.

Lessening our

Environmental

Impact

Our passion for the planet is the driving force behind our environmental objectives. Actively conserving an ecological balance in our production process is the core objective, with the long-term ambition being that the word ‘sustainable’ will become redundant as it will be a given.

We recognise the harm caused to the local and global environment from continued use of non-recyclables, causing excessive landfill, and non-renewable materials, and we are committed to actively playing our part to reduce these. One way we do this is through the continuous evolution of our product portfolio to include those with superior sustainable credentials and circularity.

Our ongoing investment in our bespoke product development ensures the production methodologies utilised are increasingly sustainable and this is incorporated in our long-term strategy. We are constantly striving to offer enhanced sustainability with no detriment to quality. For example, moving to water or vegetable-based inks for printing and using FSC paper as standard. Post consumer recycled polyester labels are made from recycling plastic bottles and reduce landfill and energy usage in production. Whilst maintaining exceptional detailing 100,000 small woven labels will use approximately 990 PET bottles.

Social Impact

Built on the basis of inclusion and equality, we have curated a work environment that prioritises equal working opportunities and empowers employees with development programs. Our prioritisation of skills development and employee wellbeing, ensures all team members feel valued and are given equal opportunities to thrive. Beyond our immediate workforce our business relies on the wider supply chain, so we strive for the fair treatment of all workers who contribute to our value chain.

We look to support both our team members and the wider community, through charitable projects, local sports team sponsorship, and partnering with local businesses where possible. We have sponsored Guiseley Yellows for the last five years, and sponsored Calverley Beer Festival and Rawdon Fun Day.

Governance

We lead with accountability.

To be a responsible business, we must act with integrity. Through internal and external assessments and frameworks we can ensure we comply with industry regulations whilst progressing our own ESG mission.

Suppliers are instrumental to our compliance and for ascertaining true supply chain transparency for our clients. To ensure we only partner with responsible and ethical businesses, we have established a Supplier Assessment that reviews partners against our code of conduct. These are reviewed on a regular basis to confirm that they continue to align with our ESG values, especially as we progress in the future.
